All of us at HBOTWNY have had the great pleasure of meeting Cooper and his family!  For the last few months Cooper and his mom Shannon have been on a consistent course of HBOT every Saturday and Sunday in our clinic.  Cooper is 3 years old and has autism.  I was lucky enough to meet Shannon at the MATT Autism event earlier this year.  Shannon and her husband Tim are incredible parents who have done everything in their power to research and advocate for the best treatments and therapies for Cooper. After nearly 20 HBOT sessions in our clinic with Cooper, Tim and Shannon made the decision to buy a hyperbaric chamber so that they could give Cooper the ability, ease and convenience to get in every day.  Children seem to adapt quickly to being in the chamber and soon becomes the ultimate fort!

The medical benefits of HBOT and Autism are significant. The alarming number of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in recent years has tragically increased; from 1 in 150 children in 2000 to 1 in 88 in 2008. Due to that increase, more and more parents have turned to alternative forms of treatments to counteract the underlying symptoms of autism. Traditional medicines have often failed at producing the desired results for many patients with autism and their families. However, studies have demonstrated hyperbaric oxygen therapy HBOT) as an emerging treatment that parents and physicians are utilizing to help reduce the effects of ASD. This non-invasive treatment is as simple as a one hour daily session, where the parent and child enter a hyperbaric chamber and receive increased levels of oxygen. HBOT has been shown to decrease inflammation and improve cognitive functions, which have substantially helped thousands of ASD patients. Studies have demonstrated the benefits of HBOT for autism with the following results reported:

Increases Oxygen Delivery to Oxygen Deprived Tissues

Reduces Brain Inflammation

Moderates Mitochondria Dysfunction

Stimulates the Creation of New Brain Cells

Reduces Seizure Frequency

Stimulates the Creation of New Brain Connections

Promotes Receptive/Expressive Language

Improves Movement & Walking

Stimulates Better Eye ContactImproves Gross/Fine Motor Skills

Improves Sensory/Cognitive AwarenessIncreases Attention Span & Alertness

Improves Sleep Pattern

Advances Social Skills & Interaction

All of us at HBOTWNY can not wait to hear all the improvements and progress Cooper will make in the weeks, months and years to come with HBOT!
