We’ve all seen movies where a SCUBA diver resurfaces too quickly – usually to avoid a giant shark or alien monster – and gets “The Bends”, (decompression sickness or DCS). The next scene has him rushed into a stainless-steel tank that looks like a mini-submarine so he can decompress slowly and live on to save the day.
That ‘tank’ is a Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy or HBOT is not new… The first experimental chamber on record was built in Europe in 1662 (before oxygen was “discovered”)! Dr. J. Leonard Corning built the first hyperbaric chamber in the United States in New York in 1891. The first Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy studies were conducted by the US military in the 1930s & ‘40s when it was used to treat DCS in divers and pilots.
A lot has happened since then! It may be hard to believe that so many medical conditions – from Autism to Arthritis – respond so positively to HBOT. But when you look at what extra oxygen can do for your body, it makes sense. Improve Energy Levels and Tissue Function
- Regenerate Tissue
- Reduce Inflammation
- Reduce Pain
- Improve Immune Functioning
- Protect the Body

In the coming weeks, we’ll be exploring the most recent research results and the medical conditions being successfully treated with HBOT.
